The accident-prone singer George Michael has been airlifted to hospital with a minor head injury following a crash on the M1. Medics were called to junction 6A, near St Albans, in Hertfordshire, at about 6PM yesterday and a spokesman has confirmed the 49-year-old had been involved in an accident, His injuries are said to consist of, “superficial cuts” and he is said to be “fine.” On this occasion George was a passenger in the Range Rover and no other vehicles were involved. In September 2010, Michael was given an 8-week sentence for crashing his car while under the influence of cannabis. He was also fined £1,250 and given a five-year driving ban. Perhaps when his ban is up George will be looking to obtain convicted driver insurance. Think will be very happy to help anyone in similar circumstances.

It has been reported that persistent drink drivers will now have to pass a medical examination before they will be allowed to legally take to the wheel. From June this year, such offenders must be deemed alcohol-free by a doctor in order to regain their licence. This legislation will affect approximately 3,000 drink drivers who are caught repeatedly breaking the law.

In 2012 almost half of the 50,000 motorists sanctioned by the courts were classified as ‘high risk’ and 6% of those failed a medical or did not turn up.

Back in March it was reported that six vehicles had been stolen from a depot in Surrey, including a Ford Model motorhome. A media appeal was quickly underway with members of the public urged to keep an eye out for any of the taken vehicles.

Prior to the recovery of the latest vehicle, investigating officer Detective Constable Stephanie Worrell, said: “I would ask anyone who has seen a Ford motor home parked up in an area and believe it to be connected to this offence to contact Surrey Police.”

It was through sheer luck that this, along with another motorhome was spotted by an eagle-eyed passer-by who had heard about the unscrupulous goings-on in the local news.

Four are still missing and the police are looking for anyone with information on the whereabouts of the vehicles to call Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference MV/13/1119.

Two men have been arrested and bailed by the police but criminal cases such as this highlight the need for adequate motorhome insurance. The heart of a GT must surely be the engine, and the unit in this Jaguar car seems to please most people who have reviewed it. The size of the engine is 5 litre V8 petrol, and remains the same across the model range. However, it is available in different power outputs to meet your requirements. Power output is 385BHP in the XK and XK Portfolio models, with 0-62MPH despatched in 5.2 seconds. Top speed is a limited 155MPH. In the XKR and XKR-S models, power is increased to a staggering 510 and 550BHP respectively – the considerable increase in power is made possible by the addition of an Eaton supercharger. Top speed is further increased to a limited 186MPH.

Only one transmission option is available in this model, and that is a ZF 6 speed sport automatic. It has different modes to choose from depending on your mood and driving style; you simply select automatic or full manual, the latter being controlled via the paddles mounted on the steering wheel.

All models in the range are available with a soft top. Rather than opt for a folding hard top, Jaguar have stuck with a fabric affair that stows away in 18 seconds.

As mentioned earlier the flagship model is the XKR-S, this car has a whole host of additions to further enhance the driving experience which satisfy the most spirited of driver. 0-62MPH in 4.2 seconds is impressive enough, but only if the stopping is just as good. Thankfully the XKR-S’s brakes are Jaguar’s high performance types, coupled with an active differential and up rated active dampers. Also included are 20” lightweight alloy wheels, lowered ride height and carbon fibre rear wing and front apron.

Inside the car the luxury is plain to see : full leather upholstery on a multitude of surfaces with a choice of hard surface finishes, 16 way adjustable sports seats and metal alloy pedals give the car a purposeful sporting appeal. Jaguars’ performance heritage is alive and well. With a flagship model like the Jaguar XK, it looks like staying that way for a good time yet
